a body evolution
Written by Haley Jakobson
1. you will not move your body for 18 years, you are born with your mother's secrets, children learn by example
2. you will wash your hair every day, blow it straight, straighten what has strayed
3. your science teacher will tell you the boys make fun of you because you're too beautiful
4. your mother makes you duck in front of the microwave, what is toxic is pervasive, your body will eat the bad until you teach it not to
5. you are uncomfortable in your own skin
6. you want to look thin in your prom dress
7. you join a gym
8. your body makes muscles it has never had
9. your body makes muscles it has never had, your body will eat the bad until you teach it not to, boys must make fun of you to be beautiful, you must make fun of you to be beautiful, muscles must be taught how to release, you were only taught to control, your hair is straight and you were born with your mother's secrets
10. you look thin in your prom dress
11. you run to college, you run from college, your mother's secrets, your own, you are thin in your dresses, your teachers do not care if you are beautiful, the secrets are asking to be told but muscles must be taught to release and your body will eat the bad unless you teach it not to
12. the doctor says you have mono, you haven't kissed anyone, you haven't kissed yourself, no one teaches the dementors how to kiss, maybe you are the dementor
13. you cannot run
14. you cannot move
15. therapy
16. you move to Italy and your body eats the good, the pasta and the dancing, the dancing and the yoga, the yoga, the yoga, the yoga
17. you do not wash your hair, you stay away from the microwave, boys are overrated, science teachers need boundaries, yoga for muscles, yoga for release, dresses and thinness are not an attached clause, your mother's secrets are not yours to keep, your body is not bad, there is nowhere to run
18. your own skin and the word comfort live in the same house, beauty lives there too, you have muscles you never knew you could, you wear a lot of dresses, you have told all your secrets, your body has been taught to eat the good.
